Children painting in our private elementary school in Lake Placid, NY

In Pre-K 3, we believe in the importance of play, working with others, and building foundational skills. Our three year olds have an abundance of opportunities to engage in structured and unstructured imaginative and creative play. They are also supported as they make new friends, learn and share, and work closely with caring adults in small peer groups. Teachers carefully plan schedules and curriculum that encourages cognitive, physical, and emotional development.

In Pre-K 4, our curriculum emphasizes social development, school readiness, and enrichment through play. Our teachers practice whole-child development, nurturing children’s social and emotional growth by offering a range of pre-academic and skill building opportunities. Providing plenty of time for play allows children to develop their imaginations, physical dexterity and cognitive abilities.

We believe that Kindergarten students learn best when they are actively engaged and having fun. Our child-centered curriculum incorporates activities that improve coordination, develop language, reading and writing skills, and encourage problem solving and social awareness. By embedding skills and content into all aspects of the curriculum, learning that children may otherwise find tedious transforms into something they readily understand.

St. Agnes Kindergarten students are exposed to all NYS Common Core Learning Standards. The outcome of our Kindergarten design is simple: every child is prepared for his or her journey through school and has gained a love of learning.

1st -3rd Grades

In 1st , 2nd and 3rd grades, learning abounds. The curriculum encourages students to explore, discover and build upon individual strengths and talents. Using a whole child approach to education, our skilled teachers design grade-level curricula with students’ cognitive, academic and social growth in mind. Educational research demonstrates that the quality of instruction students receive in the elementary grades often determines future school success. We aim to encourage students in 1st , 2nd and 3rd grades to become skillful and confident learners in language arts, math, science and social studies.

Our talented specials teachers love to welcome students for weekly lessons in Art, French, Music, Physical Education, and Next Generation Science.

St. Agnes students also enjoy participating in weekly "Genius Hour" time where they practice project based and student led problem solving. Topic offerings rotate quarterly and students get to follow their passion as they explore and learn. Each project culminates in a student showcase.

Children ages 5-12 are welcome.

After school

St. Agnes students love the after school program! On schooldays from 2:30-5:30, students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade enjoy snacks, homework help and time on the playground. Most days of the week, after school begins with a club offering: Lego, Science, French, Basketball and Service Club are favorites. Our annual traditions begin in September with a festive back-to-school barbeque. Throughout the year there are dozens of opportunities for families to support the academic and social growth of their children. Just some of our favorite family events include: Author’s Night, the Blessing of the Animals, Catholic Schools Week, the Christmas Bazaar, the Crowning of Mary, Geography Night, Grandparents Tea, the Halloween parade, Restaurant Nights, the Science Fair, the Spring Musical, and field trips to Tucker Farms and the Whiteface Lodge!

Faith Formation

St. Agnes students are encouraged to deepen their faith through understanding the teachings of the Catholic faith using developmentally appropriate texts and hands-on projects. Students learn to embrace gospel values and acts of kindness, and come to understand that we are all God’s children, we are all special in His eyes, and we are called to serve Him by serving one another.
